THAILAND'S MICE INDUSTRY

It makes perfect sense that through the years, the time-honoured Thai tradition of offering hospitality in the home has evolved into a much sought after profession and is one of Thailand's fastest growing economic sectors today.

Thailand's meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions industry consists of four distinct market segments namely:

Corporate and association meetings
Incentive meetings
Conventions
Exhibitions or trade shows

Each exists independently of the other but also co-exists as complementary components of a wider industry category referred to as the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions or "MICE", an acronym widely used in the Asia Pacific. The development of a highly sophisticated tourism sector in Thailand served as a spring-board catapulting the country's leading travel and tourism operators such as destination management companies and tour operators into the meetings, incentive meetings, conventions and exhibitions niche markets.

The wealth of experience accumulated in hosting regional and world events has served Thailand well in positioning the country as a premier destination for international meetings, incentive events, world-class conventions and exhibitions.

As Bangkok celebrates 220 years of its founding as the country's capital in 2001, Thailand will be welcoming the 12th World Congress of Gastroenterology(15,000 delegates) and the 20th World Scout Jamboree (30,000 delegates) in 2002, and the Lions Club International Convention (30,000 persons), the world's biggest, in 2008. These are among many of our recent successes.

Thailand's tourism assets, infrastructure and facilities included, have made it a very strong contender on the world meetings and conventions scene.

In recent times, Thailand has also made its presence felt on the international arena through the world's most prestigeous industry events. The annual BangkokInternational Motor Show now shares equal billing with its Frankfurt, Tokyo, Detroit, Geneva and the other counterparts on the international circuit.

The International Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, a "hot world event" is also Thailand's first "Made in Thailand" trade fair that is today, a full-fledged international event attracting thousands of international exhibitors, buyers and visitors to Thailand each year.

   Amazing Offers

Thailand is fast becoming the world's favourite destination for meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibitions. To facilitate event planning and implementation, destination management companies, hotels, convention and exhibition centres and organisers and domestic airlines who
are members of the Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA)
have come together to extend exclusive offers, making it all the easier and more economical for you to hold your events in Thailand.
